Town of Hammonton Construction Department
The Town of Hammonton, Atlantic County lists its own Construction Department, which handles construction permits. Hammonton is not on the list of Atlantic County municipalities for which the Department of Community Affairs acts as the local code enforcement agency, although DCA's Southern Regional Office happens to be located in Hammonton. Pinelands review comes before the local permits.

Atlantic County Division of Public Health
The state's directory lists the Atlantic County Division of Public Health (its offices are on Shore Road in Northfield) as Hammonton's local health agency, so septic permits for new homes go there. Because the whole town is in the Pinelands Area, the health agency cannot approve a system until the Pinelands Commission has issued its filing or approval.

- The Pinelands Commission's municipality list (revised February 2025) shows Hammonton Town with the mark (a), which the Commission defines as the entire municipality land area located within the State-designated Pinelands Area. It is one of 13 Atlantic County municipalities on the list.
- How the Pinelands filing works
- The Pinelands Commission says its staff reviews private applications, single-family dwellings included, and once the file is complete usually issues a Certificate of Filing so the applicant can seek municipal and county approvals. Those approvals are then sent to the Commission, which checks the project against Pinelands standards. Its staff will not call a lot buildable without an application.
- Local health agency
- The New Jersey Department of Health directory dated July 8, 2026 lists Hammonton among the 22 Atlantic County municipalities served by the Atlantic County Division of Public Health in Northfield. Atlantic City has its own health department.
- Blueberry production
- Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Atlantic County describes the county as the center of New Jersey's cultivated blueberry production, with almost 80% of the state's crop grown there, and runs an annual open house for commercial blueberry growers (undated page, read September 2026).

Land and lots in Hammonton
Land around Hammonton is a mix of working farms, woodland and rural house lots along the roads out of town. Every parcel in the town is inside the Pinelands Area, so the Commission's management area for your lot, and any wetlands on or near it, matter as much as the town's zoning. Farm parcels need a second look: an active blueberry field may be under a farmland preservation easement, and that deed restriction travels with the land to the next owner.
